Five Pieces for Orchestra

(1999-2000)

This work is an orchestrated version of five of the six movements of my Six Character Pieces for Viola and Piano, a piece I composed for violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama. This is my first work for full orchestra, and was commissioned by conductor Kent Nagano and the Berkeley Symphony. The work is in five movements and was premiered by the Berkeley Symphony, with Kent Nagano conducting:
